Kole Notes Winter 2010

I can’t believe that Christmas is only three weeks away…Yes, I’m in the Holiday mood as we started off the month with a concert called Christmas, New Orleans Style at St Louis Cathedral on December 1st…The Cathedral is the 2nd oldest one in the states…The concert was funded by French Quarter Festivals, Inc, and I used the trio, plus John Perkins who was the founder and lead singer of the Crew-Cuts (hits were Sha-Boom, Earth Angel, etc) and Kitty Cleveland an exceptional singer who voice is an instrument in itself…What a wonderful concert in a fantastic setting…Yes, I’m in the Christmas mood…

My cameo appearance with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra on October 27th was wonderful, and following the concert I was awarded along with Fats Domino, Pete Fountain and Ellis Marsalis the Mahalia Jackson Lifetime Achievement Award…What an honor that was – To be honored along side so many of my peers…Speaking of symphonies, on September 11th the trio was featured with the Rapides Symphony Orchestra on the banks of the Red River…and what a fantastic evening that was…Lloyd Cambre on Drums and Danny Infante on Bass played their hearts out as did the orchestra…On October 30th I used the septet format playing outside at Camp Salmen Nature Park in Slidell…This was unique – If I could have climbed over the fence separating our property and Camp Salmen, I could have walked  through the “forest” and been there in a few minutes…It took me 15 minutes to drive it…It was also a fantastic show…It’s great to be able to do some shows close to home, but 2011 will see us back on the road…My wife Gardner is getting well, and we’re looking forward to Europe in the summer, and anywhere else that comes up…

Coming up in January is a show that I’m really excited about…It’ll be at Chateau Golf and Country Club in Kenner, Louisiana…It’s rare that I perform locally except for festivals like the French Quarter festival and the Jazz and Heritage Festival, but with Gardner having a stroke on April 3rd, I’ve canceled or postponed most of my out of town dates which has freed me up to perform in the Greater New Orleans area…This will be the first time in years that I’ve performed in the Kenner area, and the best part is, the dinner concert is open to the public…For information, email Michelle Swanner at admin@chateaugcc.com

For those of you that remember the original Ronnie Kole Trio, circa 1963-1979, which consisted of Dickie Taylor on Drums and Everett Link on Bass…On October 30th after a long battle to stay healthy, we lost Dickie Taylor, but I know that he is now playing drums with all those great players that succumbed prior to him…The music community will truly miss him, as will the Dukes of Dixieland who he played for as well as being their leader for 20 years…Dickie was multi-talented…Most who knew him marveled at his drumming, but he was also a fine artist, designing the covers of a few of our early albums…Add to that he was a composer, singer and harmonica player…Dickie was a class person, a fantastic drummer and most of all, a very dear friend whom Gardner and I will truly miss…

Speaking of Gardner, She is really progressing quite well…She is doing some walking with a cane, and in fact did 300 feet a few times last week in rehab…She’s a fighter and will be back to 100% before long, and then, we’ll be off and touring the world hand in hand…

Last but not the least, it is not too late to order A Ronnie Kole Christmas CD, or any of my other 12 CD’s…You can order them on my Website, www.RonnieKole.com I’ll autograph them to whomever you’d like to give them to and get them off to you in time for the Christmas Holidays…

Sorry that this issue is so long, but there was much that I wanted to tell you, and most of all Gardner and I want to wish you a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy 2011;

Ronnie Kole

Kole Notes Fall 2010

More Good news and Great news…

The summer is now over and we’re entering into the last four months of 2010…I’ll start this issue of Kole Notes with an update on my wife Gardner…She has been making great progress since her stroke five months ago this past Saturday…For those of you that want to see Gardner’s progress since April 3rd, CLICK HERE for a short video taken on the five month anniversary…As you can see, her steps are getting more positive and she is starting to get movement in her left arm…I asked her to squeeze my hand and yes, she was able to get a little movement there also…She has a long way to go, but she is on a roll…I don’t like going anywhere or performing without having her close by so she is working like crazy to make my wish come true…

I canceled our summer European tour but was fortunate to get a 13 week booking at Stalla’s in the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino in Biloxi, MS which kept my mind sharp and my fingers nimble…They opened Stalla’s for the summer months and it closed this past Sunday, September 5th…I will truly miss my evenings there as all the people from the President & COO, the Entertainment Director, the Contractor plus the wait staff and room manager at Stalla’s were all were true “class” people to work with…This weekend (9-11) the trio and I will be performing in Alexandria, LA with the Rapides Symphony Orchestra…It’s a free concert that will be held outside on the banks of the Red River…This will be the first time that I’ll be out of town without Miss G…I’ll also be doing a private party fundraiser in Alexandria for the Arts at the home of our very dear friends Lance and Leetha Harris…

I’m looking forward to performing a convention show in New Orleans next week, and next month with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and other guest artists…I’m looking forward to renewing a wonderful Mardi Gras Bash that we did in Oceanside, CA for many years, and now they have moved it to Minneapolis…What a kick that’ll be…In November we’ll be doing dinner shows at the Chateau Golf and Country Club in Kenner, LA, and at Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare Center, New Orleans…December 1st we’ll kick off the month long Christmas New Orleans Style in St Louis Cathedral with the trio, plus guest artists John Perkins and Kitty Cleveland…Two wonderful singers… There are so many more dates, but it’s best to check them out on this website…So many out of town performances have been moved to later dates with the hopes that Gardner will be able to join me, and all these venue’s have been so understanding…

I’ll be looking for you at some of the upcoming dates, and know that you can always get in touch with us by e-mail, phone or mail, and thanks for all of your prayers for Gardner to return to full health…They have been working as you’ll see in the attachment…

Gardner sends hugs, as do I, and thanks again;

Ronnie Kole
